Penn-Jersey Mid-Winter Convention

The Penn-Jersey Mid-Winter Convention will begin with a Consulting Rosarian School Friday morning. The school will be led by our District Consulting Rosarian, Don Myers. The school is open to anyone wanting to increase their knowledge of growing roses. The school will serve to renew the certification of any Consulting Rosarians. Any members wanting to become a Consulting Rosarian should have been an ARS member for three years and have a recommendation. They should obtain the Consulting Rosarian manual from the ARS prior to the school. The school will continue through lunch which is included. Dinner will be on your own with our hospitality room opening on Friday night. There are several programs planned for our mid-winter meeting.

On Saturday, February 15th, there will be our series of educational talks about roses. Among them are Bill Tremblay from Espoma Fertilizer, speaking on Espoma Fertilizers for the rose garden and lawn. Don Myers will present a program on Better Exhibiting. Elaine Adler will be talking about landscape roses and their use. Bruce Monroe will present slides on members gardens. He would like to include pictures of your gardens. Please send him your slides.

We have been lucky to have Ed Griffith, who is the ARRS National Chairman of Judges speak to us. Ed will also be our evening speaker.

It is necessary to have a formal District meeting on Sunday to elect a member to the National Nominating Committee. I will also present the results of our recent National Convention and answer any questions on changes at the national level..

We will continue our small rose show and the fourth annual rose photo contest as part of our program. The photo contest rules are shown below. The photo entries will be judged before the meeting and all the photos displayed with prizes for the winners. The rose show will be an educational one with the winner based on a fun vote. So bring pennies. There will also be both a raffle and a book sale. If  you have old rose books you don’t need bring them and donate them for the sale. The Forestenhauslers are again putting together the raffle so we can expect a good one.

The program schedule, photo contest and rose show rules as well as a printable convention  registration form can be found below.

This should be a great meeting with lots of fellowship, rose talk and information. Hope to see lots of you there.
